Tove Jansson is a famous Finnish artist and writer. This year, she would have turned 100 years old. She is most popular for her stories about the Moomins. She created illustrated novels, comic strips and picture books about these characters. The first story about the Moomins was published in 1945 and the first comic strip appeared in the Finnish newspaper Ny Tid in 1947. In 1954 she started to create comics in English for The Evening News. Today these works are reprinted all around the world; the stories and the characters have inspired several animated films and a wide collection of toys; in Finland there is a park and a museum dedicated to the Moomins.
