Yury Alexandrov is a well-known St. Petersburg artist, illustrator, book designer. In the seventies, he drew illustrations for textbooks and primers for the peoples of the Far North. Children’s books were published with Alexandrov’s illustrations. Later he became one of the first comic book artists in Russia since he saw drawn stories as a universal form of text organization. In his works, that have been defined by art critics as “schizocomics”, the author uses an intriguing mixture of obscene adult pictures and images for children from Chukchi school textbooks – according to him they are similar in their operating nature.
