Gabrielle Bell is a living proof that self-taught individuals can become highly successful artists. She grew up in the American province and did not receive any university degrees in art. Gabrielle began to publish her first fanzines after she took art classes at the City College of San Francisco. Almost immediately after moving to New York in 2003, she won an Ignatz award for “Lucky”, a series of autobiographical comics. In 2008, her comics “Cecil and Jordan in New York” served as a basis for the film “Interior Design” by the cult French director Michel Gondry. Fanzines are limited editions, which can be printed both at home using a conventional printer, or at professional print shops. Typically, they are printed by the author or an art association, but it happens that the expenses are paid for by readers and enthusiasts. In the world of comics almost every artist with a household name started their career with fanzines. In Russia, the interest in this type of publishing is growing every year, and there are more and more publications. More than 50 Russian artists from different regions of Russia have provided their fanzines specifically for this exhibition.
